David Kross, a German actor who had appeared alongside Kate Winslet in “The Reader” when he was 17, delivered a speech in praise of Winslet, whose performance in that film earned her the Oscar for best actress in 2009.

Kross’s very personal remarks highlighted Winslet’s kindness and approachability: “I very quickly realized that you were not only a fantastic and extremely professional actor but also a wonderful team player. Never before and never since have I witnessed an actor being so supportive of every single cast and crew member on set. Instead of hiding out in your trailer, you were always present, in every department, and always approachable and letting others profit from your experience.”

At the festive “Evening with Kate Winslet” at the sold-out Deutsches Theater, the Hollywood actress then presented the European premiere of the film “Lee” (directed by Ellen Kuras; screenplay by Liz Hannah, Marion Hume, and John Collee), which she co-produced. Winslet appears in the leading role of Lee Miller, whose impressive story as a photographer and war correspondent during the Second World War is told in the film. The screening was followed by an extensive FilmTalk with Kate Winslet and producer Kate Solomon with the enthusiastic audience. The movie, whose cast includes Alexander Skarsgård, Marion Cotillard, and Andy Samberg, will open in theaters across Germany on September 26, 2024.

Kate Winslet spontaneously used the stage to make a statement: „It is important to say that we are proud. And as women I think we don’t give ourselves opportunity enough to express our pride in ourselves and the things that we do.”
