On Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 September, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, was in Stockholm to discuss ongoing cooperation projects with Sweden. During these two days in Sweden, the Emir of Qatar met with King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia and Crown Princess Victoria. On Wednesday 4 September 2024, the Emir of Qatar arrived in Oslo. In Norway, the Qatari sovereign also had the honour of being received by the royal family.
King Harald V received his Qatari counterpart in audience. The two countries cooperate in several areas, including peace diplomacy, energy, greening and the defence industry. These topics were on the agenda of the discussions that the Emir was also able to have with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
After the audience between the two heads of state, Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon joined them for lunch. The Royal House emphasizes that "Qatar plays an important role in several peace and reconciliation processes, including in the negotiations on a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza."
