ROYAL ARTS VISIONS; 42 TORINO FILM FESTIVAL

42 TORINO

 FILM FESTIVAL

The 42nd Torino Film Festival will take place from November 22 to November 30, 2024, under the aegis of the National Cinema Museum chaired by Enzo Ghigo and directed by Carlo Chatrian, with Giulio Base as artistic director.

The selection committee is composed of Davide Abbatescianni, Martina Barone, Ludovico Cantisani, Elvira Del Guercio, Veronica Orciari, and Davide Stanzione.

On the year marking the one hundredth anniversary his birth, the 42TFF will dedicate to Marlon Brando – one of the greatest actors of all time – a broad-ranging retrospective, the guiding image of this year’s festival, and an immersive video-exhibit entitled Brando’s Touch – Un viaggio nell’icona di Marlon Brando a 100 anni dalla nascita, in collaboration with Gallerie d’Italia Torino.

This year, the inauguration, which confirms the TFF’s desire to dialogue with the major local cultural institutions, will take place in the splendid setting of the Teatro Regio di Torino, a symbol of the city and one of the great international opera houses.

The patroness of the event will be Cristiana Capotondi. This edition of the TFF is a continuation of its cinephile and auteur past; at the same time, it pays careful attention to the new generations, who are able to experience, interpret, and share the strong, research-oriented soul inherent in the festival’s mission.

The program is distinguished by its choice of original independent films, the great number of international premiere screenings, and the many participating female directors and filmmakers, starting with the presidents of the juries of the three competitive sections, Margaret Mazzantini, Roberta Torre, and Michela Cescon. The movie theatres regain their preeminent, fundamental role.

The 120 films in the three competitive sections (Feature Films, Documentaries, and Short Films) and in the three noncompetitive sections (Out-of-Competition, Zibaldone, and Marlon Brando Retrospective) will all be presented or introduced by their directors or actors, by direct witnesses, or by exponents of film culture and critique.

There will be many international guests: from Ron Howard to Billy Zane, Sharon Stone, Julia Ormond, Emmanuelle Béart, Rosario Dawson, Alec Baldwin, Matthew Broderick, and Vince Vaughn. Key representatives of Italy’s film universe will include Giancarlo Giannini, Ornella Muti, Michele Placido, Claudia Gerini, and Giuseppe Battiston, just to name a few.

The 42TFF renews its collaboration with the Film Commission Torino Piemonte, TorinoFilmLab, and Torino Film Industry, and continues its various collaborations with the City of Turin – Social Services Division, the University of Turin, and the other above-mentioned cultural partners.

This year’s festival will pay special attention to social issues, with dedicated events, and reconfirms its commitment to environmental sustainability, following the good practices of the Green Festival Guide created by the AFIC (Association of Italian Film Festivals).
