"The Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most famous works of art in history. The original of the famous mural is in the dining room of the Dominican monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, where it can only be seen for a small window of a few minutes. Too little time to be able to even begin to look at the masterpiece closely or to study it down to the smallest detail. This is exactly what is possible in the new audiovisual, immersive 360-degree exhibition “Leonardo da Vinci – The Last Supper”. With the help of the latest technology, every detail of the painting is zoomed in on, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the scenario.

And it doesn't stop there, because the exhibition goes even deeper into the subject: Who was Leonardo da Vinci? What other works did he create? And to what extent did his passion for the natural sciences, anatomy, visionary inventions and mathematics influence the painting and other of his works of art? These include the "Mona Lisa", "Salvator Mundi" and the "Lady with an Ermine". The immersive journey allows viewers to get to know the outstanding artist and scientist.

Leonardo da Vinci - his incredible work and life

Leonardo da Vinci was the most important artist of the Renaissance. He is considered one of the most famous polymaths of all time. Da Vinci was a painter, sculptor, architect, mechanic, engineer, anatomist and natural philosopher. Born on April 15, 1452 in Anchiano near Vinci, died on May 2, 1519 in Amboise. Alongside the "Mona Lisa", which was painted between 1503 and 1506, "The Last Supper" is one of his most important paintings. He received the request for it when he was around 40 years old. His commission was to paint a picture for the front wall of the dining room of the Santa Maria delle Grazie convent in Milan. Even during the creation process, the picture was admired by many artists.

“The Last Supper” as a multimedia light installation

The work of art in Milan measures 9.04 x 4.22 meters. In the steam dome of the Motorworld Munich, visitors experience it as a 360-degree projection in its original size. The multimedia light installation brings out the original splendor of colors of the da Vinci work. Several restorations had to be carried out over the centuries to save the original, which had been flaking due to moisture and mold, from decay. The new exhibition now makes the painting more tangible for the viewer than ever before in an immersive experience. It takes visitors on a visually powerful, emotional, exciting and informative journey through the story of “The Last Supper”. The immersive experience in the Motorworld Munich is sponsored by Allianz.
