REDEFINES ELECTRIC SURFING, MERGING TRADITIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP WITH CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY
INTRODUCING THE LIND CANVAS: A GAME-CHANGING ELECTRIC SURFBOARD HONED THROUGH YEARS OF COLLABORATING WITH SHAPERS, INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS AND ELECTRO-MECHANICAL ENGINEERS TO CREATE A PRODUCT THAT LOOKS, RIDES AND HANDLES LIKE A SURFBOARD
Rooted in California and Sweden, the LIND team has spent a lifetime dreaming of surfing without waves. That dream became a reality with the innovation of their electric surfboard that promises “a new way to play,” embodying the look and feel of surf's most enduring pieces while hiding state-of-the-art drivetrain technology within the board’s underside. Through their innovations, LIND is poised to open up the world’s playground to wherever there is water.
The result of years of intensive design and engineering work, LIND boards—including the battery, jet, wireless remote, charger and all accessories—are entirely designed in- house from scratch. They are beautiful outside and in, completely tool-less and fully modular. At only 7 kg or 15 lbs, the board can be carried under one arm with the battery and jet in a custom designed backpack. The ease of transportation paired with a set-up process taking less than one minute ensures users move from living room to lakeside as quickly and easily as possible.
The brand’s first stock release, the LIND Canvas, draws inspiration from iconic surfboard designs and serves as the cornerstone for LIND’s subsequent board models, emphasizing superior craftsmanship, thoughtful shaping and exceptional performance. Shaped from EPS foam, glassed in epoxy resin and with fine details like its oak wood tail block and stringer, the board combines timeless appeal with otherworldly drivetrain technology.
Thanks to their drivetrain innovations, LIND boards generate 20 kW of power (nearly 30 hp) and 3.1 kWh, delivering speeds of up to 37 mph (60 km/h) and a ride time of up to 45 minutes. They are one of the world’s most power dense electric vehicles at nearly 1 hp/kg and have an energy density 2x that of a Tesla Model S, dual motors spinning at 30k rpms—2x that of a Formula 1 racecar, and a waterjet that can empty your standard bathtub in less than 2 seconds. They are deliciously powerful pieces of performance art, veiled in the uncontested natural beauty of surfboard craftsmanship.
Said Alex Lind, Co-Founder and Visionary behind LIND, “Our approach to product design has been to start from the outside in: to start with a surfboard – something organic, natural and that we all truly respect – and to find a way to seamlessly integrate the boundary-pushing technology required. Our brand vision, on the other hand, is to peel back the layers of what makes surf so attractive and apply those qualities to LIND: the craftsmanship of board shaping and deep connection between a surfer and their board, the ease of ownership, the youthfulness the sport inspires and the artistry of storytelling and filmmaking.”
Unrivaled Power, Performance, and Design
The LIND Canvas comes in two sizes—the shortboard (6'3" x 20 ⅘" x 5 7/10", 66 liters) and mid length (6'9" x 23 ." x 5 7/10", 88 liters)—and is controlled utilizing a sleek and fine-tuned wireless remote, allowing the surfer to smoothly accelerate as they get their footing, gradually opening up the drivetrain until their preferred planing speed is reached. Between the shortboard and mid length models, LIND boards offer a choice between sharp, wide, open and deep turns, or quiet, calming and cathartic cruising. In all cases, backed by agility, fluidity and a marriage between grace and power. In shaping and designing the boards, the common goal among LIND’s team of surfboard shapers, industrial designers and electro-mechanical engineers was to create a board that is an extension of oneself. One that lets the surfer’s eyes lead the way, responding to their movements naturally and facilitating a state of presence and flow, enabling them to focus on the simple beauty of each turn, their surroundings and that very moment.
The board’s battery is a marvel of engineering, optimized for energy efficiency, weight, longevity, durability and more. Located beneath the board, it is naturally cooled by the water on which one surfs, aided by an aluminum cooling plate that efficiently transfers battery heat to the water, allowing LIND to prevent overheating and maximize the longevity of the battery cells. With the LIND charger, the battery charges to 100% in a standard US 120-volt outlet in just two hours, and a 230-volt outlet in just one hour.
The jet propulsion system is engineered to be smaller and lighter than competition, weighing just 22 lbs(10 kg), while 2x as powerful. Amazingly, the gearbox design also achieves 97% efficiency, converting nearly all of its input power into output power. The result of this imaginative engineering is a smooth and stable, yet powerful surf with unparalleled control and acceleration.
