Princess Kako of Akishino visited the city of Tajimi during her stay in Gifu Prefecture. The second daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito visited the Mosaic Museum after opening the city's Ceramic Festival.

Princess Kako of Japan visits Mosaic Tile City

Princess Kako of Akishino, niece of Emperor Naruhito, is currently on a two-day official visit to Gifu Prefecture in central Japan. The second daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito is visiting as part of the Ceramics Festival. Princess Kako visited an exhibition on outsider art and the Mosaic Museum on October 17, 2024.

Tajimi is the largest domestic producer of mosaic tiles, the Asahi Agency reported. A museum has opened in the city to promote the craft and local manufacturing. The Mosaic Museum only exhibits tiles smaller than 50 square centimeters. Upon her arrival at the museum, Princess Kako was greeted by a group of children from Tajimi, a city of 100,000 people.

Princess Kako visited this exhibition, which presents collections of tiles, floor tiles, tiles and mosaics of all kinds. Most of the tiles presented have an original shape or were made using particular techniques.

After the princess's visit, Tomi Iwai, who served as a guide to the niece of the Emperor of Japan, explained that she had particularly appreciated the temporary exhibition of this museum opened in 2016. The temporary exhibition focuses on blue tiles and tiles.
