MIGUEL VELEZ
THE CACTUS ARTIST
How can I describe Miguel Velez ?
He is exactly like his amazing cactus collection. Exotic and sensitive.
How can I describe his Artworks ? Colorfully decorative and ready to spread happiness. Miguel Velez is the son of a Ecuador.
That amazing land of coffee, chocolate, endless green nature flavoured with the most unbelievable fragrances. The paintings born on Miguel's canvas are part of his native land with all the mystery of the dark jungle and the friendly faces of his beloved fellows.
Interesting, vibrant, passionate, Miguel's artworks are a real joy for eyes.
Living between Ecuador and California, the artist's wish is to bring people together in to the blooming desert of his art where family and cactus flowers are his love, aspiration and inspiration.
Miguel Angel Velez defines himself as a self-taught person. There are moments while he is painting and he is carried away by his experiences and personal appreciations, in such a way that his art is the reflection of his emotions and internal thoughts. His art embraces a rich variety of works, which range from the most subtle and simple as a landscape to an abstract work full of color.
Are you influenced by your national heritage?
Of course, I always have had a deep admiration for the people of my beloved Ecuador and their heritage. So much so, that I have worked with ink that shows farmhouses from the Coast and Highlands with their people. As well as two very important and colorful acrylic works that show the diversity of the Ecuadorian jungle.
What is the relation between your artistic visions, paintings and your passion for cactus collection?
There is no relationship between two. Like art collecting cactus is my way to relax.
How much important is the family for an artist?
My family is my everything. They are my inspiration because they surround me with an atmosphere of happiness and unique moments. They create a magical and special vibe that makes me feel alive to be able to capture all those thoughts and emotions in my works.
Where do you feel more creative and inspired at home in your country or in USA?
I think there is no special place for an artist to be inspired. When talent is innate you want to capture and transmit it no matter where you are in Ecuador or USA. I have lived in both countries, and as I mentioned before, I consider myself an emotional artist, places do not influence in my work.
