Nice Jazz Fest

Success for the 2024 edition!

Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region:

“With a focus on renewal and novelty, the 2024 edition of the Nice Jazz Fest has proven to be a great popular and artistic success. I would like to thank my deputy Graig Monetti and all the teams for this new impetus given to the festival. Over 4 evenings, at the Théâtre de Verdure and on the Masséna stage, as well as at all the Jazz Off concerts in the Metropolis and the City of Nice, 40,000 spectators, whether simple amateurs or specialists, came together to enjoy a suspended moment. A bridge between cultures, music played its role: uniting generations and continents. The public was able to discover or rediscover 24 artists such as Nas, Phoenix, Jungle, Omah Lay and Kenny Garrett, but also an experience-oriented festival village with many activities and a Kid’s Club to welcome our little ones. This is how we design the Nice Jazz Fest, as a place of life and meetings where music and the City of Nice unite to shine together."

The “Kind of Blue” village

The Nice Jazz Fest now has a festival village! Inspired in its scenography by the legendary Miles Davis album “Kind of Blue”, this unique place immersed the public in a captivating atmosphere tinged with blue, where each corner tells a story of jazz, creativity and conviviality, with a multitude of activities: make-up, customization of objects, concept store, pétanque ground.

The Comedy Club

In the village, between two concerts, the audience present was able to enjoy the good humor spread by the Bobar Comedy Club, discovering the humorous talents of the local scene. A friendly atmosphere, in a cozy setting where laughter, discoveries and good surprises were on the agenda.

The Kid’s Club

There is no age to enjoy music! Professional entertainers welcomed the children (aged 4 to 10) of the spectators during the concerts, from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. A fun, varied and innovative program was set up to develop the musical awareness of the little ones and thus allow everyone to experience a wonderful evening: board games; construction, cards: Festi challenge; Musical Twister; make-up: Star Seeds, creative workshop: the poetic tree; sound puzzle, etc.

The Nice Jazz Fest “Jam Session” after-parties

After the concerts, the after-parties took over at the “Kind of Blue” village. From 00:30, the space was transformed into an intimate and warm party venue with acoustic music sessions under the stars to vibrate until the end of the night. Like the jazz clubs of the biggest international capitals, the atmosphere was festive and friendly, animated by jazzmen from the Côte d’Azur, with the highlight being the presence of Nice Jazz Fest artists invited for wild jam sessions.

Jazz OFF in Nice and in the municipalities of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis

As every year, on the sidelines of the Nice Jazz Fest, Niçois, residents of other municipalities of the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis and tourists were able to enjoy a Jazz OFF program in Nice and in the municipalities of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. The public was thus able to discover free musical performances by many artists: floating show by the company Le Piano, concert by pianist Steve Villa-Massone, show Le Pianoteur by the company La Toupine, concert by the R-Saj Band, candlelight concert, show le Dinamo, concert Sopa Loca, concert le Piano Massage – Piano du Lac, concert Ceux qui Marchent Debout, fanfare of the Nice-Orléans Jazz Orchestra by Imago, concert by Les Bruits de Cuisine.

An inclusive festival

As part of its policy of integrating people with disabilities, Christian Estrosi leads numerous actions to enable them to participate fully in the life of the city. Thus, during the Nice Jazz Fest 2024, and after an initial experiment during the 2022 edition, the City of Nice deployed an adapted device allowing the deaf and hard of hearing public to fully enjoy musical performances. Thanks to vibrating vests, the hearing impaired were able to feel the music and experience the concerts intensely. Called "Solution Immersive Live", this device designed by the company TIMMPI is an audio-tactile process adapted to make a musical program inclusive. A control box with an algorithm translates the music into vibrations and transmits it to the body via several points of contact, allowing the audience to feel the rises, falls and harmony of the bass.

Presentation of the Ferret Trophy to Stella Cole

Since 2011, the City of Nice has awarded this honorary trophy, specially created and produced for the occasion by Maison Ferret, to an artist scheduled at the Nice Jazz Fest. During this edition, it was the singer Stella Cole who was honored on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 by receiving this award from the hands of Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolis, Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region and the comedian Gad Elmaleh.

The artists John McLaughlin, Dee Dee Bridgewater, André Ceccarelli, Richard Galliano, Jamie Cullum, Herbie Hancock, Gregory Porter, Christian McBride, Pierre Bertrand, Mélody Gardot, received a Ferret Trophy.
