Five one design classes set to descend on Monaco

(J/70, Smeralda 888, ClubSwan28, Longtze Premier, Cape 31)

Highly rated by one design fans the Primo Cup-Trophée UBS, organised by Yacht Club de Monaco in partnership with UBS and support of Monaco’s City Hall, is an ideal springboard for new classes wanting to make a mark. Since its launch in 1985 by YCM President HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, the event has established itself as a benchmark in Europe, attracting famous sailors keen to shine before the start of their season. Over 450 sailors from ten nationalities are expected at this 41st edition.

Some 90 crews will be racing on Smeralda 888, ClubSwan 28, Longtze Premier, Cape 31 and J/70, the latter confirming its status as a flagship class on the international circuit with 45 teams registered. “The Primo Cup-UBS Trophy has long been viewed as a key event on the race calendar, its reputation drawing sailors from all over the world every year,” says YCM General Secretary Bernard d’Alessandri. The weekend regatta also serves as the fourth and final stage of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series 2024/2025.

ClubSwan 28 makes its debut on the international scene

New for the 41st edition is the official launch of the ClubSwan 28, the latest sportsboat to come out of the famous Finnish shipyard. Designed to combine performance, manoeuvrability and accessibility, the hull and deck of this 8.5m one design are built of specially reinforced fibreglass with a carbon mast and no backstay. The sail plan comprises a mainsail, jib, gennaker and spinnaker.

With a lifting keel and being an easily transportable size, no special permits are required to take the boat from one regatta to another, a major benefit for owners and professional teams. The ClubSwan 28 fits into a long-standing tradition at the Primo Cup-Trophée UBS which is an ideal testing ground for new classes. By hosting this world first, Monaco reinforces its status as an important hub for innovation in sportsboat racing.

Act IV of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series: J/70s keep suspense alive

For the J/70 fleet it’s their fourth and final act of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series 2024/2025, dominated until now by YCM member Stefano Roberti (Piccinina). These monthly winter regattas launched by YCM in 2013 have proved an ideal opportunity for international teams to fine-tune preparations before the big European and global events.
