The Sultan of Oman on a State visit to the United Arab Emirates
Sultan Haitham of Oman paid a State visit to the United Arab Emirates on 22 April 2024. Sultan Haitham bin Tariq was welcomed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyane, President of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Abu Dhabi. The aim of the State visit was to maintain the historic and fraternal relations between the two countries and to strengthen cooperation in various fields.

Sultan Haitham on a State visit to the United Arab Emirates
Sultan Haitham ben Tariq, who succeeded his cousin to the Omani throne in January 2020, made his first State visit to the United Arab Emirates on 22 April 2024. The 69-year-old sultan is continuing the modernist shift begun by his predecessor. The sovereign is promoting his Middle East policy, particularly during his state visits to the Gulf states. The United Arab Emirates and Oman share a 410-kilometre border.

Sultan Haitham was welcomed at the airport by President Mohammed ben Zayed Al-Nahyane, 63. The President of the United Arab Emirates is the Emir of Abu Dhabi. The Emir of Dubai is the country's vice-president and prime minister.

Oman's official news agency reported that "the two leaders wish to elevate their relations and maintain security and stability in the region", following bilateral talks held at the palace between the two heads of state. It emerged that "the two countries share the same vision on issues of mutual interest to the peoples of both countries. Their relations represent the true meaning of brotherhood and harmony over the past five decades".

The aim of the visit is to promote and strengthen bilateral relations on a range of issues. During their meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on regional and international developments. A supreme committee was set up between the two countries in 1991. This alliance ensures the interests of each country in the economic, commercial, cultural and educational fields.

This was a return state visit. The Emirati President had made a State visit to Oman in September 2022. An official dinner was held at the palace in the evening, in honour of the Sultan of Oman.
